Abstract

Disabled sports are considered one of the important special sports today due to their significant role in rehabilitating the disabled to achieve high sports accomplishments and raise the name of their countries in international forums. Therefore, countries have focused their efforts on providing equal opportunities for individuals with limited mobility to practice sports and compete with their peers, enriching their lives in the fullest sense, in addition to serving humanity, restoring self-confidence among the disabled, and providing them with suitable opportunities to practice various sports just like the able-bodied.The sport of weightlifting for the disabled is one of the Paralympic sports that has contributed to the development of sports and the achievement of accomplishments in various championships. The research problem lies in answering whether the maximum strength of the arms affects performance. The study aimed to identify the relationship between the maximum strength of the arms and the performance of young weightlifters with disabilities. The research sample included 12 lifters, the original community of the study, represented by the Iraqi national youth team in weightlifting for the disabled.The tests were conducted in the weightlifting hall for people with disabilities at the banks/Iraqi National Paralympic Committee, from 25/11/2019 to 28/1/2020. The researcher used the descriptive method due to its suitability for the nature of the research problem. Based on the results shown by the study, the researcher reached the following conclusions:

1. The maximum strength of the lifters has a direct and effective impact on the level of achievement in weightlifting for people with disabilities.

2. The increase in the maximum strength level of the lifters will contribute to achieving the required performance in the lifts.The researcher recommends the following:

1. The necessity of focusing on developing maximum strength in the national youth weightlifting team for the disabled.

2. The necessity of focusing on increasing the level of strength in all its forms for the weightlifting team for the disabled.
